Role of local Government in Net Zero 'overlooked'

Chris Skidmore, Conservative MP for Kingswood and chair of the Mission Zero independent review of net zero, has said that central government should 'step aside' to allow local and regional leaders to deliver net zero for their communities.

In a new report published today, Chris Skidmore has called on the chancellor to seek to set up a consolidated Local Net Zero Fund at the Spending Review in November that is aligned with other longer-term funds ‘in order to provide local authorities with greater certainty’.

The Future is Local is the first report from the Local Mission Zero Network and is written jointly by Mr Skidmore and the Conservative Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen.

As the demand for low-carbon and net zero work increases, electrical and engineering services contractors play a more important role than ever in delivering the installations that will make Net Zero possible.
