ECA ‘seriously concerned’ about political turmoil in Westminster

The Construction industry is united in calling for stability in the wake of this week’s political turmoil, culminating in yesterday’s resignation of Prime Minister Liz Truss. In a round of up of opinions from across the industry, Construction News leads with a quote from ECA’s Director of Workforce and Public Affairs Andrew Eldred who says:

“We are seriously concerned about the ongoing political upheaval”.

He goes onto say:

“Business only thrives in a stable environment, and our Members need certainty to plan for the future. Many firms in the electrotechnical industry are already facing labour shortages, soaring energy prices, and an ongoing shortage of materials. We need long-term solutions, such as investment in skills and training and clarity about net zero incentives, to give our members confidence. Short-term fixes and short-lived governments only add to the headaches facing hard-working contractors.”

One of the biggest fears voiced was that the political turmoil will mar crucial progress towards a net-zero construction industry after a decade of progress.

ECA Members who are affected by the ongoing crisis can seek advice from one of our expert helplines.
