UK’s largest gas-free homes scheme breaks ground

Housebuilder Equans is set to begin work on the UK’s largest gas-free housing scheme at a site in Flanshaw, Wakefield.

A former quarry will be transformed into a low-carbon scheme of 140 gas-free affordable homes. Each home will also be equipped with solar panels and air source heat pumps.

Nathan Brough, Regional Director at Equans, said in Construction Enquirer: “Heat accounts for around a third of all CO2 emissions in UK homes, so it’s never been more important to look to renewable technologies to help create sustainable communities, and we’re really proud to be doing just that here in Wakefield.”
