Balfour Beatty launches pop-up EV chargers

Construction giant Balfour Beatty has partnered with Urban Electric Networks, an EV chargepoint operator, to form Urban Fox and enter the on-street electric vehicle charging market.

The partnership expects to invest up to £60m to deploy up to 35,000 retractable charge points across the UK over the next decade, with the first 7kW on-street chargepoint already launched.

The retractable chargers can be installed in 80% of streets, according to the five-year product development and testing across various councils. Urban Fox's quick installation and replacement process also allows additional chargepoints to be easily installed as demand dictates.

Urban Fox will offer local authorities a complete solution to EV chargepoints, including funding, building, operating, and maintenance.

Gavin Russell, CEO of Balfour Beatty Investments, stated that the company's "innovative, collaborative spirit" would help achieve the government's 2050 Net Zero strategy.
