Recognition for industry colleagues

The Electrical Distributors’ Association (EDA) was one of 46 organisations to win a Princess Royal Training Award. EDA received the Award for their commitment to training and development. Their suite of 12 Product Knowledge Modules received a commendation.

The Princess Royal Training Awards recognise employers across the United Kingdom who deliver outstanding training and development programmes that have had a direct impact on their people and organisations. Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal presented the Award to Margaret Fitzsimons, CEO of EDA (pictured).

Kirstie Donnelly, Chief Executive of City & Guilds said:

“I am delighted we are able to recognise 46 fantastic employers who place value on training. From inclusion and diversity, through to programmes addressing the ongoing impact of climate change and tackling skills shortages in certain sectors – organisations are using training to address these issues”.

BESA Outstanding Achievement Award

Technical Director of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), Dr Hywel Davies. received the Gold Award for outstanding achievement from the Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) as part of this year’s H&V News Awards.

The annual award is given to someone whom BESA and H&V News believe has gone above and beyond the call of duty for the greater good of the building services industry.

BESA chief executive David Frise praised Davies’ ‘granular appreciation’ of regulation, technical detail and professional standards, and his determination to ensure the voice of building services engineering ‘is heard in the places that matter’.

‘Dogged persistence and a willingness to speak out are among his key skills,’ said Frise. He added: ‘This particular recognition marks the coming to fruition of a long project – the push for “culture change” around building safety following the Grenfell Tower tragedy. Hywel is at the forefront of efforts to prepare the industry for the most far-reaching building regulation reform since the Second World War… and we are all in his debt.’

ECA works closely with both EDA and CIBSE. As Chair of the Actuate UK Building Safety working group, Hywel Davies collaborates closely with ECA colleagues. You can read more about ECA and Building Safety here.
