ABB Formula E unveils next-gen electric racer

Organisers of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship have revealed Gen3, the “fastest, lightest, most powerful and efficient electric race car ever built.”

The new design from the FIA Formula E and development teams is modelled on fighter jets and boasts up to 95 per cent power efficiency from an electric motor delivering up to 350kW of power, outperforming the 40 per cent power efficiency of internal combustion engines.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of the FIA said in BusinessGreen, “Both technologically and environmentally, Gen3 sets new standards in the sport.

“The FIA and Formula E development teams have done a superb job, and I thank them for their hard work on this project. I am delighted to see so many leading manufacturers already signed up to the championship's next era and await Gen3's competitive debut in Season 9 with great anticipation.”

The Gen3 car will be made available to all teams competing in Season 9 of the Formula E series, which is set to start in January 2023.
