Empowering young people for World Skills Day 2023

Technological advancements and a shifting labour market increasingly call for agile and adaptable skill sets. To empower young people to navigate these changes effectively, World Youth Skills Day 2023 highlights the essential role of educators in preparing young people for a changing world.

ECA has a pivotal role in shaping employment, training and qualification programmes to fit our industry for the future.

Last week Andrew Eldred, ECA’s Director of Workforce and Public Affairs, was invited to join the Solar Taskforce of the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero. For ECA, the Taskforce represents an opportunity to recognise and support the important role of electricians and broader electrical skills for solar installations.

Andrew will emphasise ECA’s position, that a commitment to apprenticeships and high-quality upskilling training is the only way to provide for the UK’s long term needs. And this includes the ongoing maintenance of solar and other net zero technologies.

The UK requires 12,000 new electrical starters annually only to keep up with industry demand and to replace those who are retiring or changing careers.
