A Beacon of Support: The Electrical Industries Charity
ECAtoday
For well over a century, the Electrical Industries Charity (EIC) has been a hub of support within the electrical industry. The Electrical Industries Charity was born from the compassionate act of ten individuals back in 1905 who each invested £10 to establish the Electrical Trades Benevolent Institution.
That Institution went on to become the ElC, a highly regarded national charity that supports the well-being of those in our industry - and their families - through life's challenges. The charity has sculpted its mission to strive to positively reshape the lives of the people it supports and the industries it serves.
Navigating Through Challenges Together
The Electrical Industries Charity understands that challenges, regardless of scale, can unfold into overpowering stress, affecting individuals and their families. These challenges can vary from relational to financial and from physical to mental, and all points in between, and the EIC can provide the practical support needed to get people back on their feet.
Empowering Workplaces: The Employee and Family Support Programme
Determined to provide a safety net within the industry, the EIC works to connect its free and confidential employee and apprentice programmes into workplaces. The employee and family support programme is designed to help create a haven where employees can turn to the ElC discreetly, without the need to tell their employer, if they choose not to. The carefully planned program goes beyond basic help, aiming to benefit both employers and employees with both immediate and long-lasting positive results.
Win, Play, Support: The powerLottery
The powerLottery is a key fundraising tool for the Electrical Industries Charity. The lottery is open to everyone and offers every participant the chance to win up to £10,000. By signing up to play you will also be supporting a great cause because every £1 that you spend on powerLottery goes towards helping people in our industry in their time of need. To take part in the powerLottery.
Challenge for a Cause: Adventure with Purpose
The EIC runs a series of Challenge for a Cause events throughout the year. These events offer more than just excitement; they create lasting positive impacts and lifelong memories. The charity offers places in the London Marathon and has organised climbing and trekking to Mt Kilimanjaro and even to Everest Base Camp, along with arctic Finland challenges and travelling across the beautiful lakes of Italy.
Innovation in Learning: the Online Platform
Mental health has become an increasingly significant issue in our sector, as well as in wider society. The EIC Trading Company has recently introduced an online learning platform that offers a wide range of mental health training courses and live interactive webinars.
The courses are designed to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively navigate mental health challenges, both personally and professionally.
The online learning platform reflects the charity's active commitment to supporting the mental well-being of individuals within the electrical industry. It allows participants to access training programs from the convenience of their own mobile phones, enabling them to find out about and acquire essential skills for managing stress, achieving and promoting mental health awareness and offering assistance to those in need.
The training programs cover a comprehensive array of topics, catering to various needs and roles within the industry. Examples of courses available on the platform are:
- Managing Stress in the Workplace
- Stress Awareness for Managers
- Mental Health Awareness
- Mental Health Awareness for Apprentices
- Mental Health First Aid
- Suicide First Aid
The launch of the online learning platform is a leap forward in promoting mental health within the electrical industry. By offering a comprehensive range of training programs, the EIC Trading Company aims to empower individuals at all levels with the knowledge and skills required to address mental health challenges effectively.
As the industry continues to evolve, the EIC aims to ensure that embracing these resources will contribute to a more supportive and mentally resilient community within the electrical sector.
If you are interested in accessing any of the training courses, you can sign up through the online platform. For businesses looking to invest in training packages, please contact training@eictradingco.org.
