A new wearable dust monitoring device, made by DustCanary, could help reduce the risks of exposure to harmful onsite dust for workers on construction sites.

DustCanary’s device provides real-time sampling and monitoring data directly to the wearer and their employer.

IOSH magazine reports that the new device is compact, with no sampling tubes or waist-worn pumps which could present a catch hazard.

It provides real-time visual and audible alarm signals when a worker is exposed to increased respirable dust, including dangerous respirable crystalline silica (RCS).

Will Averdieck, founder and managing director of DustCanary, said: “Our wearables are really valuable tools for providing protection to workers from dust exposure while also providing protection to employers through valuable insights and records of minimised exposure.”
