EV sales up 76%
Sales of electric vehicles (EVs) rose by just over 76 per cent in 2020 compared to 2019, according to figures from Cornwall Insight.
Vehicle registration data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT) showed September EV registrations reached 21,903 vehicles, despite record low vehicle sales overall.
Katie Hickford, analyst at Cornwall Insight, said the coronavirus crisis may partially be behind boosted EV sales, and that “EVs may be a popular choice with those wanting to maintain the improvements in air quality brought about by lockdown. It is possible that COVID-19 could positively increase consumer demand impacting EV sales.”
