Sir Brendan Barber joins JIB National Board

Sir Brendan Barber, former general secretary of the United Kingdom's Trades Union Congress (TUC), will join the JIB National Board as a Public Interest Member. He will also chair the Major Contractors’ Committee (MCC).

Sir Brendan Barber spent most of his working life at the TUC, and served the last 10 years as General Secretary. From 2014 to the middle of 2020 he was Chair of the Advisory and Conciliation Service (Acas). He has served on a number of other public bodies including the Commission on Employment and Skills and was a member of the Court of Directors of the Bank of England from 2003 to 2012. He has also served on the boards of Transport for London and Openreach.

JIB Chief Executive Jay Parmar welcomed Sir Brendan, saying: “It gives me enormous pleasure to welcome Sir Brendan on to the JIB National Board. His impressive work over the span of his career makes him an ideal choice to chair the MCC and we will benefit hugely from having him on board. We are all looking forward to working with him.”
