Lewis Hamilton tackles new E-racing series
British Formula-1 champion Lewis Hamilton has announced he will run his own electric racing team in the new Extreme E racing series in 2021.
The Extreme E championship, created by Formula E founder Alejandro Agag, will consist of five races, each in a location considered to be under threat or already damaged by climate change. The provisional season is scheduled to start in Senegal in January 2021, before visiting Saudi Arabia, Nepal, Greenland and Brazil.
Hamilton, who has been vocal in his support of environmental cases, told the Guardian that “the Extreme E championship will be not only raising awareness of some of the most critical environmental issues facing our planet, but also doing something about it through working with local charitable organisations to leave behind no trace and a long-lasting legacy of change.”
