Tenth of construction firms running at a loss
New figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that over one in ten (12 per cent) of construction firms have experienced operating costs that exceeded turnover in recent weeks – effectively operating at a loss.
In addition, nearly half (46 per cent) of construction firms saw their turnover fall in recent weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The data also showed that 9 per cent of workers in construction companies were still on furlough leave, while 23 per cent were working remotely.
