McLaren to stop producing petrol engines

CEO of British supercar manufacturer McLaren Mike Flewitt has said the firm will stop developing petrol engines within a decade.

Speaking in an interview with the Financial Times, Flewitt added that McLaren will focus on making hybrid supercars for the next 10 years before ceasing development of internal combustion engine vehicles altogether from 2030.

The announcement comes after the company unveiled a new lightweight carbon fibre vehicle architecture that will underpin a range of upcoming electrified models.
