TUC calls for ‘just transition’
The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has called for a regionally-focused green recovery plan that will play to each region’s strengths and ensure a ‘just transition’ for workers around the country impacted by the coronavirus economic downturn.
In a new report, the TUC set out its vision to plan fair and successful paths to net zero emissions. This includes detailed region-specific proposals, such as a modular reactor development in the North West, to capitalise on the local workforce’s skill in nuclear power.
TUC general secretary Frances O' Grady said to BusinessGreen, “"National action is vital, but regions need to cut their own path to net zero too. Each region has its own character, with its own industry, culture and geography. We need local knowledge and expertise to play to an area's strengths and address its needs."
