Smart meters show signs of recovery
The number of smart meters installed in the UK increased sharply in July as lockdown measures were eased and energy suppliers lifted their suspension of smart meter installations.
According to energy market analyst ElectraLink, July saw 152,000 meters installed, an increase of 120 per cent from the 69,000 meters that were installed during June. However, this figure is 36 per cent lower than the number of meters installed in July 2019.
Electrical Review reports that 13,620,245 smart meters have been installed since the Government established its target of installing them in all UK homes and small businesses by the end of 2020 – a target which was extended by 4 years in late 2019.
