New IET draft fire detection guide

The IET has released a new draft for public comment of the ‘Electrician’s Guide to Fire Detection and Alarm Systems’ (3rd edition).

The guide has been prepared for electrical installation designers and contractors involved in the design, installation and/or maintenance of fire detection and alarm systems in the UK. It is concerned with electrical installations in buildings and must be read in conjunction with relevant legislation and standards, in particular BS 5839-1 and BS 5839-6.

This 3rd edition seeks to summarise and incorporate relevant updates to Approved Documents and British Standards, as well as guidance including key current developments in fire safety, risk assessment and equipment standards, and how these apply to the relevant devolved Building Regulations.

The guide is now live and available for download on the IET Electrical site here. The consultation runs until 7 September, and responses should be sent to standardsandregulationsdpc@theiet.org.
