Construction falls by 35 per cent in Q2
The UK’s construction sector output fell by 35% in Q2 this year, according to new figures from the Official for National Statistics (ONS).
Furthermore, ONS figures also show the number of people working in the construction industry decreased by 83,000 during the same timeframe – the largest fall since 2010.
Looking ahead, Noble Francis, economics director at the Construction Products Association, commented: “Construction activity was getting back on site in June, towards the end of Q2, so I would expect construction activity and employment to pick up significantly in Q3.”
Overall, GDP across the entire economy dropped by 20% between April and June, formally putting it into recession.
