Government launches planning reforms
The Government has set out plans to reform the UK’s planning system and overhaul the way the country builds.
The changes aim to reduce the length and complexity of planning procedures, to make it easier for small businesses to engage with housebuilding. A Government statement says that small businesses only lead on 12 per cent of new homebuilding today, compared with 40 per cent 30 years ago.
Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick MP said, “Our complex planning system has been a barrier to building the homes people need; it takes 7 years to agree local housing plans and 5 years just to get a spade in the ground”.
