DPD to trial fully electric London fleet

International parcel delivery firm DPD has announced plans to trial a fleet of ‘world-first’ fully electric 16-tonne delivery lorries in London, starting in 2021.

The vehicles, by Scandinavian EV start-up Volta Trucks, have been purpose-built for London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), where DPD opened the UK’s first all-electric parcel depot in 2018.

Volta Trucks CEO Rob Fowler said to BusinessGreen, “As the world's first purpose-built full-electric large commercial vehicle, the Volta Zero was specifically designed to deliver parcels and freight in inner city locations where today's air quality and noise pollution challenges are at their worst.”
