Scottish power urges more offshore subsidies
Scottish Power chief executive Keith Anderson has called on the Government to scrap its cap on offshore wind power subsidies, to help stimulate a green economic recovery after the coronavirus crisis.
Speaking to the Guardian, Anderson said this would involve “minimal risk” to billpayers because the cost of offshore wind turbines is so low that a boost in new projects could make energy cheaper overall.
“At this stage you are guaranteed fantastic value for money,” he said. “And what do you gain? A huge wave of investment into the UK supply chain companies and a major boost to the economy.”
