Giant Google cable to reach Cornwall
Google is planning to build a transatlantic data cable to connect the US, the UK and Spain.
Expected to be completed by 2022, the project will provide a significant upgrade to existing data lines. Named Grace Hopper, the cable will connect New York with Bilbao, Spain and Bude, Cornwall.
Speaking to the BBC, John Delaney from telecoms analyst IDC, said, “Google needs an ever-increasing amount of transatlantic bandwidth", adding that “building its own cables helps them choose cable routes that are most optimal, and near data centres.”
