UK’s largest green energy system launches
The UK’s largest smart city green energy system has begun development in Peterborough. The clean energy system will link waste-to-energy, battery storage, heat pumps and electric vehicle charge points to cut household bills, reduce CO2 emissions and serve as a blueprint for other UK cities.
The project is funded by the government's UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) body and the private sector. It is expected to be completed in 2022.
Elliot Smith, programme head at Peterborough City Council, said to BusinessGreen: "This is a highly innovative project, one of the most ambitious nationally and one which could become the most significant in the UK's transition to low carbon infrastructure."
