£3bn green jobs fund
Chancellor Rishi Sunak has pledged £3bn for green construction projects as part of the Government’s “New Deal” to stimulate the economy after the coronavirus crisis.
The fund will help the UK to “build back greener”, the Treasury said, and “power up the nation’s workforce and protect the environment.”
The measures, which are expected to be announced in the summer budget statement this week, will include £1bn to decarbonise public buildings. A further £50m will be utilised to retrofit the least energy efficient social housing in the country with heat pumps, insulation and double glazing.
