New Tesla battery plant in Dorset
Electric vehicle and battery storage company Tesla will supply batteries and software for a new energy storage plant in Dorset.
Six of Tesla’s lithium-ion batteries will be installed as part of the joint venture project by Harmony Energy and Fotowatio Renewable Ventures.
The plant will store energy from renewable sources and will help power homes at peak energy demand times, further reducing the grid’s reliance on fossil fuels.
Peter Kavanagh, chief executive of Harmony Energy, said to the Times: “Utility-scale battery energy storage is critical to the future of the UK’s energy supply, often seen as the missing link in the UK’s renewable energy strategy, both in terms of controlling grid frequency and providing backup during periods of peak demand and supply.”
