Traineeships to triple
The Government has said it will provide 30,000 new traineeships to help boost school leavers’ employment prospects after the coronavirus crisis.
The additional funding for traineeships, around £111m and £21m for similar schemes in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, is set to be announced by the Chancellor Rishi Sunak this week.
Additionally, businesses will get £1,000 for every work experience placement offered.
The Treasury said in a statement, “Expanding traineeships will be part of a wider package to support young people and to ensure they have the skills and training to go on to high quality, secure and fulfilling employment.
"Young people's employment prospects are expected to be disproportionately affected by the economic fallout of coronavirus.”
