Furloughed staff dropped in June

The latest Business Impact of COVID-19 Survey from the Office for National Statistics shows that the number of construction staff on furlough in the two weeks ending 14 June was 27 per cent, a decline from 37 per cent in the previous fortnight.

The proportion of workers furloughed in construction peaked at 40 per cent at the end of April and has been falling since.

Other ONS data also suggests up to 66 per cent of construction businesses are topping up the pay of their furloughed staff.

28 per cent of construction businesses have applied for government backed finance. So far, a quarter of those that have applied for loans have received funds.
