Working safely during coronavirus: new guidance
The Government has issued new guidance for working safely during the pandemic, in light of this week’s announcement that the 2 metre social distancing rule will be relaxed from 4 July.
The guidance states that employers should “ensure as many people as possible comply with social distancing guidelines,” described as “2m apart, or 1m with risk mitigation where 2m is not viable”.
The guidance also states that “workplaces should make every reasonable effort to comply with the social distancing guidelines set out by the government.”
Face coverings are not mandated at any distance except as follows: “Wearing a face covering is required by law when travelling as a passenger on public transport in England. Elsewhere in England it is optional and is not required by law, including in the workplace. Employers should support their workers in using face coverings safely if they choose to wear one.”
