Electric planes to take flight ‘in three years’
A new milestone in electric flight could bring commercial zero-emissions aircraft to the UK market within three years.
A prototype six-seater plane took its maiden test flight this week. Developed by California start-up ZeroAvia, the plane is powered by on-board lithium battery packs and an electric motor.
“[This] flight is the latest in a series of milestones that moves the possibility of zero emission flight closer to reality,” said Val Miftakhov, ZeroAvia founder and CEO, to Inews.
The next stage towards potential electric commercial flight is to convert a 19-seater aircraft to run a trial on hydrogen fuel cell instead of lithium battery packs.
