SSE commits £7bn to green recovery

Energy firm SSE has committed to spending more than £7bn over the next five years to stimulate a green recovery from the coronavirus crisis, including major new wind power projects.

These include the £580m Viking onshore windfarm project in Shetland, and a partnership with oil company Total on the £3bn Seagreen offshore windfarm in Scotland.

Alistair Phillips-Davies, SSE’s chief executive, said to the Guardian: “It’s easy to talk about a green recovery, but we’re putting our money where our mouth is with £7bn of low-carbon infrastructure projects that can deliver a win-win for climate and economy.”
