2,000 residential buildings still at risk
The Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee has challenged the Government to remedy all fire safety defects in buildings still at risk by December 2021.
On the third anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire, which claimed the lives of 72 people, there are still 2,000 high risk residential buildings.
A statement from the HCLG reads, “Government support will fall far short of what is needed to carry out remedial work on all buildings that currently have dangerous cladding and other fire safety issues, including inadequate fire doors or missing fire breaks.”
Committee Chair Clive Betts MP said, “The financial and emotional toll has been significant, with temporary safety measures costing huge sums and the ongoing stress of living in a property that may not be safe. This is not good enough.”
