Face masks mandatory on public transport
Face masks on public transport will be required from Monday 15 June. Those who flout the new rules can be fined.
The Government announced that face coverings will be compulsory for travel on buses, trains, tubes and other modes of public transport.
Speaking at a daily press conference last week, transport secretary Grant Schapps said, “as of Monday 15 June, face coverings will become mandatory on public transport.
“That doesn’t mean surgical masks, which we must keep for clinical settings, it means the kind of face covering you can easily make at home.
“The evidence suggests that wearing face coverings offers some, albeit limited, protection, against the spread of the virus.”
