Government support for construction workers
The Government has paid out £4.6bn since March to furloughed, self-employed or laid off construction staff during the lockdown, accounting for almost 8 per cent of all furlough claims and 10 per cent of the total support by value.
Figures reported by Construction Enquirer show that so far 801,000 self-employed construction workers have received pay-outs from the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme, totalling over £2.8bn.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak said, “Our unprecedented job retention and self-employment support schemes have supported the livelihoods of millions and will help ensure our recovery is as swift as possible.”
From July, the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) will change to allow employers to bring furloughed staff back into work on a part-time basis.
