Facebook plans underwater data cable network
Facebook and their telecoms partners are planning a 23,000-mile undersea data cable network which will be almost as long of the circumference of the Earth, reports the BBC.
The data network project, which will be ready for use by 2024, aims to supply faster internet to Africa.
The cost of the 2Africa project - which will connect Europe and the Middle East to Africa – will reportedly cost close to £820 million, according to Bloomberg.
The data cable will run along the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea.
