JIB to suspend National Working Rule 16

The Electrotechnical Joint Industry Board (JIB) has announced that National Working Rule 16, which states that “no operative shall carry out electrical work on their own account, or in their own time, whilst in employment,” is to be temporarily suspended during the ongoing coronavirus lockdown.

The move should help enable furloughed operatives (including apprentices) to use their electrical skills to good effect, including by performing socially valuable voluntary work.

Jay Parmar, Chief Executive of the JIB, said: “We recognise the pressures which our member companies are currently facing an by responding to the changing environment and making these temporary changes we hope we are helping members look after their employees whilst addressing the needs of the Industry.”

The parties will review the position regarding Rule 16 on or before Tuesday 16 June 2020.
