Boost for electrical waste sector
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Fund (WEEE Fund) has unveiled a £5.6m Covid-19 support package to help the electrical waste recycling sector.
Business Green reports that the package is designed for electrical waste treatment centres and reuse organisations that have been forced to close or operate a reduced service due to the coronavirus lockdown.
The WEEE Fund has promised to provide £5m of interest-free loans for electrical waste treatment facilities and £600,000 of grants for charity-sector reuse organisations.
Electric and electronic waste is one of the fastest-growing sources of waste in the UK, and it requires specialist recycling facilities. The closure of these facilities during the coronavirus lockdown has reportedly had a significant impact on the industry.
