Build UK seeks to extend hours
The trade body Build UK is in talks with the Local Government Association to extend working hours on construction sites. Calls for extended hours have come as productivity has dropped due to social distancing measures.
Speaking to Construction News, Pete Redfern, chief executive of housebuilder Taylor Wimpey, said longer working hours would allow it to improve safety by reducing the number of subcontractors onsite at any one time. “That allows us to stagger canteens and signing-in books,” he said.
