Solar generation breaks more records
UK solar power generation reached its highest ever level this week (commencing 20 April).
Solar PV in the UK generated between 9.65GW and 9.71GW of electricity – enough to power approximately 6 million average UK homes. The figures were recorded by the Sheffield solar PV tracker.
Dr Nina Skorupska, chief executive of the Renewable Energy Association, said this was an "astonishing feat", and that it shows "only the beginning of what the industry is capable of".
Dr Skorupska added, "for this to continue into the future, the renewables and clean technologies industry needs assurance that in this trying time the fight against climate change remains a top priority for the government."
The previous record for UK solar PV generation was set in May 2019 with 9.55 GW.
