Renewables become Britain’s main power source

Renewable energy sources overtook fossil fuels as Britain’s principal energy source for the first time.

Figures from analyst EnAppSys show that wind, solar, biomass and hydropower accounted for 45 per cent of electricity supply between January and March 2020, thanks in part to a particularly windy winter.

Speaking to the Telegraph, Rebecca Williams, head of policy at RenewableUK said the data was “a clear demonstration that renewables are becoming the UK's main power source, taking over from fossil fuels.”
