Cheap red diesel could be stopped at Budget
The tax-exempt status of red diesel may be scrapped at the next Budget, according to a report in Construction Enquirer.
Red diesel is largely used in the construction and agricultural sectors. Tax-exempt red diesel is currently 47p per litre cheaper than typical diesel.
The Government move would aim to encourage a switch to greener alternative fuel vehicles and help the UK meet its climate change targets, although it could increase costs on construction.
The Budget is being held on Wednesday 11 March.
