Social landlords could face £10 billion fire safety bill

The costs of bringing social housing up to the necessary fire safety standards could “easily exceed” £10 billion, according to the National Housing Federation (NHF).

The NHF says scores of housing blocks ae wrapped in combustible materials and suffer from other safety flaws which must be fixed under new government guidance intended to protect tenants.

The social housing trade body is writing to Chancellor Rishi Sunak this week to urge the Government to fund the costs in the upcoming 11 March budget.
