PM set to formally sign off HS2, say reports

Prime minister Boris Johnson is expected to give the green light for the first stage of the High Speed 2 rail link this week, according to the Guardian.

The announcement, which could take place on Tuesday in Parliament, will likely approve construction of the line between London and Birmingham. Downing Street has indicated that the announcement would be accompanied by details of a range of other infrastructure projects across England.

As well as increasing capacity, HS2 would cut journey times between London and Birmingham from about one hour 20 minutes to 45 minutes and between London and Manchester from two hours eight minutes to one hour eight minutes.
