Skills set to be focus of Budget
Chancellor Sajid Javid will reportedly make skills a key pillar of the upcoming Budget, according to reports. Javid is expected to provide more funding for FE colleges, boost retraining opportunities, and expand apprenticeships.
“There’s a huge amount of work going on so that we do this right – identifying the real problems so that our policies address it. Skills will be a big part of that”, a Treasury source told the Guardian.
However, shadow education secretary Angela Rayner, who is currently bidding to become Labour’s deputy leader, said: “if the Tories are serious about creating the skills that our people and economy need for the future, they will need to do far more than simply offer warm words.”
The Budget is set to be held on Wednesday 11 March.
