Utilities create Digital Twin to combat flooding

Utility companies including UK Power Networks, BT and Anglian Water have joined forces with the National Digital Twin programme to flood-proof the nation’s infrastructure.

The NDTp will develop a digital facsimile of the country’s utility networks called the Climate Resilience Demonstrator (CReDo). It will virtually simulate the impact of flooding on power, telecoms and water networks. Utilities will use the data to develop more robust and resilient services.

Sarah Hayes, CReDo project lead and author of the landmark report Data for the Public Good, said to BIMPlus: “We are really excited for what we can deliver through CReDo: demonstration that connected digital twins can enable increased climate resilience and that collaboration across a team that spans industry, academia and government forms the pieces of the puzzle that unlock solutions to reaching net zero.”

The NDTp and partners will launch CReDo with a webinar for COP26 on 2 November.
