Prime Minister Boris Johnson has visited the site of the UK’s first wind-solar-storage project, which began construction in Cornwall this week. The project is operated by Scottish Power.
The site will be home to 10,000 solar PV panels which will complement an existing 20MW of wind power and 1MW of battery energy storage capacity.
The project marks the first time these three technologies have been combined on such a scale. Energy Storage News reports that plans to install a 40MW solar farm and 50MW of battery storage on the site of its Whitelee wind farm – currently the UK’s largest onshore wind farm – are also underway, with these to support green hydrogen production.
