Contractors give evidence at Grenfell inquiry
The second phase of the Grenfell Tower inquiry opens today with statements from contractors behind the tower’s refurbishment.
Over 200,000 documents have already been assembled for this phase of proceedings, detailing elements including the design of the cladding and choice of materials, the testing and certification of those materials and the role of central and local Government in promoting fire safety.
The inquiry suffered a setback over the weekend, after newly-appointed member of the panel Benita Mehra resigned over an apparent conflict of interest.
Hearings are expected to last until at least April 2021 – with hundreds of thousands of pages of evidence set to be disclosed.
