Gov’t to launch battery technology competition

The Government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) is set to launch a virtual event and competition to stimulate the development of longer-duration energy storage battery systems.

The competition forms part of the government's £1bn Net Zero Innovation Portfolio Fund, a funding programme which aims to scale up a range of clean technologies critical to meeting the UK's climate goals.

The virtual event will take place on 17 June. To learn more and express interest, click here.

REA CEO Dr Nina Skorupska said in BusinessGreen, “This is an important moment for longer duration energy storage and, indeed, our wider efforts to reach our net zero ambitions.

"The £68m of capital investment in this area is very welcome and it will provide valuable support to the immense innovation, vision and entrepreneurship that runs throughout this sector.”
