Steel price increase continues
The cost of steel has risen again, with a £50 per tonne increase announced by British Steel with immediate effect.
The increase is the seventh since summer 2020 and takes the price of standard steel sections to around £800 a tonne.
One small steelwork contractor said to Construction Enquirer: “With no indication to the market of impending rises we can no longer afford to pass these rises on in a structured and controlled manner.”
Price increases also continue to affect all of construction’s min structural materials such as timber and concrete products.
