First Net-Zero retirement village in the works

Construction firm Willmott Dixon is set to build the UK’s first net-zero carbon retirement village in Caddington, Bedfordshire.

The £120m, five-year project will comprise 200 apartments which will make full use of ground source heat pumps, solar PV, improved building fabric and insulation, mechanical heat vent recovery units, and EV chargepoints.

Michelle Cotterill, director at Willmott Dixon, said to Construction Enquirer: “This project is creating a new, state-of-the-art complex to facilitate comfort and independence for retirees, and we’re also really looking forward to working towards the construction of our first net zero retirement project and moving one step closer to meeting our ambitious sustainability targets for 2030.”
