Construction guru calls for offsite changes
The Government requires “re-education” into offsite construction if this is to bring about end value, according to construction guru Mark Farmer.
Speaking during an event hosted by the Westminster Business Forum, Farmer stated that the offsite presumption “hasn't led to a whole plethora of MMC projects…Part of it is that the [Government] departments' internal teams need re-educating, around how you procure value and how you actually deploy the MMC presumption in a way that achieves end value.”
Farmer previously wrote major report ‘Modernise or Die’, which called for a raft of changes to secure the future of the construction industry.
ECA ran a major industry survey on offsite construction in 2019, which found that offsite had the potential to bring about improved health and safety outcomes, increased productivity, a smaller carbon footprint and reduced operational costs.
